A Note About Palm Oil

I won’t lie. When I first started making soap, I really toiled with the idea of using palm oil in my products. Do some research. There are some pretty horrific things going on surrounding this popular ingredient found in soaps and food products. Even suppliers who sell what they label as sustainable, I believe, are only required to make sure a certain percentage of their so-called sustainable palm oil is indeed sustainable.

Organic and sustainable palm oil isn’t cheap. But it’s a non-issue with me. And I’d rather do my partā€”albeit smallĀ  in the big scheme of thingsā€”to support those efforts to grow and produce a more eco-friendly option. (The supplier I buy from sources 100% of their organic and sustainable palm oil responsibly, and I can provide more information to those who are interested.) In fact, from what I can tell, a lot of bigger companies are actually getting on board with supporting these efforts, and I’d like to think that maybe, just maybe, the collective voices, actions, and buying power of the small folks like me had something to do with that.

That said, I love, love, love that people are getting hip to thisā€”and asking questions when they see ingredients like palm oil in a product. I love having customers who care about these things!
